There’s something to that, I think, beyond cheesy pie-in-the-sky ideals
Because I’ve been watching a lot of people in my life lately just allow themselves to be governed by fear
They don’t apply for the job they don’t talk to the girl they don’t stand up for themselves (they don’t take the almost-free trip to the uk) they don’t move away from the place that makes them miserable. They don’t let themselves be happy.
Here’s the thing… we’re all going to be dead. Pretty soon! And there’s probably not anything after that, at least nothing that we will be consciously aware of. There’s no reward for playing it safe. You just have to live your life and be happy. And a lot of people think that safety/familiarity/easiness will bring them happiness, but it won’t. It will bring them safety/familiarity/easiness, and happiness will elude them, and they will wonder why their life isn’t happier.
Some times you need to take a chance.
You need to go out on a limb.
You have to do what scares you.
You have to follow your dreams.
You have to not give a shit about what people think of you.
You have to not give a shit about what you’re “supposed” to do.
You need to accept that maybe you won’t make a lot money doing what makes you happy — maybe not now, maybe not ever.
Because you know what?
Maybe you will make money. Maybe you’ll be famous. Maybe that girl in the comic shop is your soulmate.
But a few things are definite — taking that chance will change you.
The trip will change you. The job will change you. Because you will be experiencing life.
Happiness doesn’t mean you never have fears or tough times. Happiness is the fulfillment that comes from overcoming these things and knowing in your heart that you did something special.
Don’t let fear control you.
